Bottom-placed Sliema Wanderers returned to winning ways as they defeated Mosta 1-0 in a match from the BOV Premier League Play-Out final round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Monday.
A win which keeps alive the Wanderers’ chances of avoiding the drop although they are now seven points behind Santa Lucia and eight behind Balzan who will be facing each other later on Monday. For Mosta, this defeat was a major setback as they eyed the three points which would have taken them to safer waters.
The Wanderers scored the all-important goal on the 57th minute when off a cross by Jake Engerer, Valmir Berishia had a shot blocked by a defender and off the rebound, Matteo Piciollo placed the ball at the back of the net.
