Valletta secure Premier League status

Valletta secured their Premier League status thanks to a 1-1 draw with Balzan in a match from the BOV Premier League Play-Out final round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

Balzan, who were led by assistant coach Alejandro Pantoja following the departure of Paul Zammit, managed to take the lead but the Citizens levelled matters to take the point they needed to secure their status. On the other hand, Balzan remain second from bottom on 24 points, two behind Santa Lucia and four behind Sirens and Mosta, who all have a game in hand.

Following a goalless first half, Balzan took the lead on the 75th minute thanks to Uros Ljubomirac who managed to beat Guarnone when served on the right.

However, on the 90th, Valletta notched the equaliser courtesy of Mario Fontanella who hit low past substitute goalkeeper Rudy Briffa from close range.
