Floriana defeat Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1

Floriana returned to winning ways as they defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

The Greens are now seventh on 22 points, just one behind fifth-placed Mosta and Gudja United and three behind fourth-placed Birkirkara. The Hotspurs, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table with just four points from fourteen matches.

Floriana took the lead on the 15th minute thanks to Mattia Veselji who managed to beat goalkeeper Reeves Cini with an angled shot.

Gianluca Atzori’s side doubled the score on the 66th minute when Kemar Reid intercepted a pass and advanced into the area, rounding the goalkeeper to place the ball at the back of the net.

Pieta’ pulled one back on the 77th courtesy of Temitope Abraham Ojo whose powerful shot from outside the area beat Floriana goalkeeper Duncan Formosa.

However two minutes later, Floriana restored the two-goal lead when they were awarded a penalty after James Scicluna was brought down inside the area and from the penalty spot, Andrei Ciolacu made no mistake.
