BOV Challenge League: Zabbar return to winning ways as Zurrieq make sure of Top 6 finish

Zurrieq are the third team apart from Zabbar St. Patrick and Melita to secure a spot in the Top 6 of the BOV Challenge League following the four matches played on Saturday.

The last matches from the first phase scheduled for this coming weekend will determine the remaining three teams to make it to the top 6.

Zabbar St. Patrick returned to winning ways as a goal by Brian Ariel Gambarte two minutes in the second half handed them a narrow win over Pieta’ Hotspurs at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Zejtun Corinthians turned defeat into victory as they beat Fgura United by the odd goal in five at the Centenary Stadium. Johan Alberto Castano put Fgura ahead on the 6th but Zejtun turned the score in their favour courtesy of Isaiah Micallef on the 21st and two late goals by Jairo Santos de Oliveira on the 87th and 92nd. Jurgen Debono reduced the gap for Fgura on the 95th.

Senglea Athletic moved a step closer to securing a top six finish as they beat Lija Athletic 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Alilu Issaka on the 25th and Raylon Kaylon Paisley on the 97th.

On the other hand, a goal by Camilo Andres Sanchez Gonzales on the 91st handed Luqa St. Andrew’s a narrow win over Msida St. Joseph at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Zabbar lead the way with 32 points, followed by Melita on 30, Zurrieq 27, Senglea 26, Marsa 25, Pieta’ 24, Fgura 23, Lija 21, Swieqi 20, Luqa, Tarxien and Zejtun 16, Zebbug 10, St. Andrews and Attard 8 and Msida 6.
