Melita were declared champions of the BOV Challenge League after defeating Marsa 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
Matthew Debattista scored the all-important goal for Clive Mizzi’s side.
In another match, Pieta’ Hotspurs defeated Senglea Athletic 4-2. Hibiki Mochizuki put the Hotspurs ahead on the 3rd minute and although Daniel Zerafa equalised on the 33rd, a Kian Leonardi penalty restored the lead on the 61st and ten minutes later, Kurt Briffa made it 3-1. Zean Leonardi extended the lead on the 75th but Senglea reduced the gap thanks to a Terence Vella penalty nine minutes from time.
Melita lead the way with 56 points, followed by Zabbar on 47, Marsa 39, Pieta’ 38, Senglea and Zurrieq 34.
Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Zebbug Rangers claimed three important points in a 4-0 win over Lija Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Duvan Mosquera Torres opened the scoring on the 7th and then doubled the score on the 79th. Gaetano Gesualdi increased the lead on the 83rd and two minutes from time, Miguel Perez Jimenez added another.
On the other hand, a penalty by Bledi Alla fifteen minutes from time handed Attard a narrow win over Tarxien Rainbows.
Fgura lead the way with 35 points, followed by Swieqi on 34, Lija 32, Tarxien 30, Zejtun 27, Zebbug and Luqa 26, St. Andrews 24, Attard 17 and Msida 6.
