BOV Gozo Player of the Month – Anthony Portelli wins April award

GFA-POM-Apr-2013-Anthony-PortelliNadur Youngsters’ captain Anthony Portelli has been named Gozo’s BOV Player of the Month for April. He is the third Nadur player to win the GFA player of the month award.

Portelli is widely acknowledged as being a key member of Nadur Youngsters, having played a remarkable role in helping his team to win the Gozo league trophy and the BOV GFA Cup.

Nadur Youngsters win Super Cup

Gozo StadiumMelita First Division champions Nadur Youngsters defeated BOV GFA Cup winners Kercem Ajax 2-0 to claim the GFA Super Cup.

Milos Stojanovic was the hero for the Youngsters, putting them ahead five minutes in the second half and doubling the score six minutes from time.

Kercem Ajax win BOV GFA Cup

Kercem-Ajax-GFA-Cup2013Kercem Ajax won the GFA Cup after defeating champions Nadur Youngsters 4-3.

Stoyko Sakaliev converted a penalty on the 7th minute to put Kercem ahead but goals by Brian Meilaq on the 19th and Joseph Portelli five minutes later turned the score in Nadur’s favour. Jean Paul Mizzi equalised four minutes from the end of the first half but in stoppage time, Anthony Portelli made it 3-2 from a penalty.

Seven minutes from time, Malcolm Vella notched the equaliser to force extra-time. No goals were scored until the 117th minute when Malcolm Vella scored again to hand Kercem victory.

Nadur, Kercem reach BOV GFA Cup final

Gozo StadiumNadur Youngsters and Kercem Ajax will be contesting the BOV GFA Cup final after both registered wins in Sunday’s semi-finals at the Gozo Stadium.

In the first game, Nadur defeated Xaghra United 2-1. Joseph Portelli put Xaghra ahead on the 19th but Anthony Portelli levelled matters five minutes later. Milos Stojanovic notched the winner on the 32nd minute.

In the other semi-final, Kercem Ajax defeated Sannat Lions 2-1. Malcolm Vella put the Ajax ahead on 19 minutes and Stoyko Sakaliev doubled the score two mintues later. Daniel Borg reduced the gap for Sannat seven minutes from half-time.

Xaghra United retain First Division status

Gozo StadiumXaghra United retained their First Division status in Gozo after defeating Ghajnsielem 5-3 in the Promotion/Relegation Decider at the Gozo Stadium on Wednesday.

A brace by John Camilleri within the first ten minutes paved the way for Xaghra who extended the lead on the 16th minute thanks to Joseph Vella. Kenny Hili pulled one back for the Second Division side on the 27th minute but goals by Slavi Kostenski on the 29th and Michael Bezzina on the 37th increased the lead to 5-1.

Robert Grima scored the Blacks’ second goal on the hour and eight minutes later, Damon Hili reduced the gap further.

Milos Stojanovic wins Gozitan BOV Player of the Month award for March

BOV-GFA-POM-March2013-StojanovicNadur Youngsters midfielder Milos Stojanovic has been named Gozitan BOV Player of the Month for March.

Although he did not score any goals, nonetheless Stojanovic impressed as an attacking midfielder as he was instrumental in helping champions Nadur Youngsters clinch two impressive wins against SW Victoria (3-0) and Sannat Lions (6-2).

Nadur Youngsters celebrate championship

Gozo StadiumChampions Nadur Youngsters were presented with the trophy after winning the eleventh Melita First Division championship after the 3-3 draw with runners-up Kercem Ajax on Sunday.

Joseph Portelli put Nadur ahead on 15 minutes. Michael Vella levelled matters on the 45th. Kercem then tirned the score in their favour with goals by Jean Paul Mizzi one minute in the second half and three minutes later, Malcolm Vella made it 3-1. Anthony Portelli reduced the gap on 87 minutes and two minutes in added time, the same player notched the equaliser.

On Saturday, Victoria Hotspurs defeated Xewkija Tigers 4-3.
