MFA Annual General Meeting: Who is entitled to vote?

One hundred-and-nine among council members and delegates are entitled to vote in the Annual General Meeting of the Malta Football Association which will be held on Saturday at the Centenary Hall. These included fifty-nine Council members and the forty-seven delegates.

Besides the usual election for members to fill in the seats of Ordinary Members of the Executive Committee for the year 2010/2011, an election is necessary for the Officers of the Association, namely the President; the three (3) Vice-Presidents; and the Treasurer as their three-year term expires.

According to the statute of the association, the Officers of the Association, that is the President, the Vice-Presidents, the General Secretary and the Treasurer are not be entitled to vote in these elections.

Those eligible to vote are therefore:
(a) the following Council Members (except for the Officers of the association):

(i) a number of representatives of the Member Clubs as follows:

– ten representing all Premier League clubs (Joe Gauci – Birkirkara, Matthew Paris – Floriana, Victor Cassar – Hamrun, Jesmond Abela – Hibernians, Robert Micallef – Marsaxlokk, Redeno Apap – Qormi, Keith Perry – Sliema, John Vella – Tarxien, Paul Spiteri – Valletta, Gerald Ellul – Vittoriosa).

– ten representing all First Division clubs (Joseph Agius – Balzan, Carmelo Muscat – Dingli, Charles Scerri – Lija, Alfred Zammit – Melita, Joseph Quattromani – Mosta, Julio Farrugia – Mqabba, Claudio Martinelli – Msida, Joe Sammut – Pietà, David Bianchi – St. Andrews, Michael Cutajar – St. George’s).

– ten representing Second Division clubs (Second Division Clubs Standing Committee: Tyrone Demanuele – Gzira, Joe Fenech – Mellieha, Dione Drago – Naxxar, Mario Grima – Rabat, Bjorn Vassallo – San Gwann, Benny Casha – Senglea, Joe Vella Bonnici – St. Patrick, Antoine Grima – Zebbug, Richard Curmi – Zejtun, John Farrugia – Zurrieq).

– ten representing Third Division clubs (Third Division Clubs Standing Committee: Raymond Micallef – Attard, Stefan Vella – Fgura, George Caruana – Gudja, Joseph Pisani – Kalkara, Joseph Farrugia – Kirkop, Godfrey Borg – Luqa, Joseph Farrugia – Marsaskala, Joseph Vassallo – Mtarfa, Arthur Borg – Pembroke, Lawrence Lia – Xghajra).

(ii) a number of representatives of the Member Associations as follows:

– two representatives of the District Football League (Carmelino Bartolo and Franz Tabone).
– two representatives of the Employees Sports Association (Mario Meli and Alfred Spiteri).
– two representatives of the Gozo Football Association (Alvin Grech and Charles Calleja).
– two representatives of the Industries Soccer Association (Lawrence Callus and Kenneth Cassar).
– two representatives of the Inter Amateur Soccer Competition (Paul Borg Inguanez and Donald Spiteri).
– two representatives of the Malta Amateur Football Association (Twanny Agius and David Abdilla).
– two representatives of the Malta Football Coaches Association (Lawrence Aquilina and Joseph Calleja).
– two representatives of the Malta Football Referees Association (Lawrence Sammut and Alexander Arena).
– one representative of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Sports Association (Joseph Cassar Naudi).
– two representatives of The Youth Football Association (Joseph Micallef and Francis Zammit).

(b) The following number of delegates of Member Clubs and Member Associations:

(i) A delegate from each Member Club in the Premier League and the First Division.

(ii) Ten delegates from Second Division clubs and ten delegates from Third Division clubs. In case there are more than ten Second Division clubs’ delegates and ten Third Division clubs’ delegates present, a ballot will be held to determine which delegates will be entitled to vote.

(iii) A delegate from each Member Association (DFL, ESA, GFA, ISA, IASC, MAFA, MFCA, MFRA, MHRSA and YFA).

The candidates nominated and approved by the Electoral Commission to fill in the posts of Officers of the Association for the years 2010/2013 (items vi, vii & viii on the Agenda) and the candidates nominated and approved by the Electoral Commission to fill in the seats of Ordinary Members of the Executive Committee for the year 2010/2011 are the following:

No election is necessary to elect representatives for the First Division, Third Division, Youth FA and Gozo FA since the number of candidates is equal to the number of vacancies.
