Two weeks after news emerged that Gudja United have teamed up with the agency Solo Football led by Angela Perez, more details about this collaboration agreement were revealed during a press conference at the Gudja United Football Ground on Saturday.
Angela Perez explained that she represented the agency Solo Football and thanks to contacts in Malta, the agency tried to find opportunities for their players. Players who are yet to break into their teams in Italy and who will be coming to Malta to gain the necessary experience at a club which is aiming high.
Although at this point, collaboration between Gudja United and Solo Football is mainly on a technical basis, Perez said that thanks to contacts, the agency will lure sponsors to the club. She said the agency has good contacts and collaboration agreements with a number of clubs in Italy, Germany and Spain.
Gudja United treasurer George Caruana explained that thanks to this collaboration, the club will benefit of a group of good foreign players and the appointment of foreign coach, sports director, goalkeepers’ coach and physical trainer. He said that this investment in the technical staff could provide the team the best preparation on and off the field of play.
Angela Perez said that a decision on the foreign technical staff and foreign players have not been taken yet and the names will be announced in due course.
Caruana said that one of Angela Perez’s main objectives is to re-organize the club and pointed some changes that the club needs to do. He went on to day that since the start if the collaboration between the club and Solo Football, the difference can already be felt.
The long-serving Gudja official stressed that although the club’s main objective is that of playing in the Premier League, one had to plan carefully to achieve this. He said that the club, which is set to start his fifth adventure in the First Division, aims to have the set-up of a semi-professional club.
“We cannot go into the Premier League just by investing money without any plan. Angela Perez will help us upgrade in order to be able to make this leap in two years’ time. This is a gradual progress. The beginning has been very encouraging and we have seen positive signs from our supporters. Their enthusiasm makes the committee work harder to upgrade our standards,” said George Caruana.
The club has already managed to upgrade its set-up and facilities in past and now with the help of the agency, Gudja United aim at going a step further.
Angela Perez and Solo Football will be in charge of the technical area of the club and the signing of foreign players while all other matters, including the local players, will fall under the responsibility of the committee. George Caruana said that hopefully the two parties will combine well in order to field a good team in order to reach their targets.
