Paul Fenech wins MFPA Best Player award

MFPA-new-logoBirkirkara midfielder Paul Fenech was presented with the MFPA Best Player award in the third edition of the awards presented by the Malta Football Players Association at the Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard on Monday.

This year, the Award Ceremony was given a new dimension and apart from the Best Player Award, the MFPA introduced a number of new awards, namely the Best Young Player, the MFPA Best XI and also a special award, the Merit Award.

All Premier League players had the opportunity to vote for their preferred players. The MFPA executive committee, with the help of two Premier League club coaches agreed on a players’ short list that in their opinion excelled during the past season. Only players who played more than 20 games were included in the shortlist. Each player was allowed to vote for each category but could not vote for players from his own club.

The winners were:

Best Goalkeeper – Justin Haber (Birkirkara)
Best Left Back – Clayton Failla (Hibernians)
Best Central Defender – Alejandro Mendoza and Nikola Vukanac (Birkirkara),
Best Right Back – Edward Herrera (Birkirkara),
Best Midfielders – Paul Fenech (Birkirkara), Ryan Fenech (Valletta), Denni Dos Santos (Valletta)
Best Strikers – Jhonnattann Benitez (Birkirkara), Edison Luis Dos Santos (Hibernians), Haruna Shola Shodiya (Birkirkara)
