Andre Schembri returns with Omonia Nicosia

Three days after announcing that he had terminated his contract with 2FSV Frankfurt due to personal reasons, Malta international striker Andre Schembri announced that he has re-joined Omonia Nicosia on an eighteen-month deal.

Schembri had joined FSV Frankfurt this summer after an excellent season with Omonia Nicosia where he had scored no less than seventeen goals. With FSV Frankfurt, Schembri played nine league matches, scoring none but scored his only goal in the German Cup in a 1-5 defeat to Hoffenheim.

Omonia are currently joint-fifth in the table with 16 points from eleven matches but lost three out of the last four matches.

Andre Schembri made his Premier League debut with Hibernians in season 2002/03 but mid-way through season 2004/05, he was transferred to Marsaxlokk. In summer 2007, he moved to Germany to play for Eintracht Braunschweig. Schembri then moved to Carl Zeiss Jena, spending one year before joining Austria Karnten in Austria in summer 2009. However in January, he joined Ferencvaros in Hungary where he spent eighteen months. In 2010/11, he had an excellent season with the Fradi, scoring sixteen goals in 27 matches.

In summer 2011, he joined Olympiakos Volou in the Greek Super League but a few months later he moved to Panionios after Volou were relegated due to match-fixing allegations. In season 2012/13, he moved to Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus and soon established himself as a key player for the club.
