Under the Technical Directorship of Stephen Azzopardi the Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery has launched the first phase of its Football Academy.
The Academy will be providing the opportunity and facilities for the participants to attend, just after they finish their school day. A light snack and fruit is provided on their arrival at the Tigne Sliema Wanderers Sports Center and then homework and study is done under supervision in a special area provided for the purpose which is also complete with PCs and Wi-Fi.
A challenging training session appropriate to their level and age group is provided by qualified Coaches under the direct supervision of the Technical Director and Coach Ivan Woods.
Nursery Chairman Clifton Grima welcomed this initiative and thanked all those that supported this venture including Rocca restaurant, Franny’s Fruit & Veg, GO & FUN and BetClic for assisting in setting up the IT infrastructure. He stated that it is the policy of the Sliema Nursery to assist its young members to develop their full personality and not just as footballers.
Technical Director Stephen Azzopardi reiterated the commitment of the Nursery towards Long Term Player Development and considered this another step to instill the right holistic attitude into young players. While he urged the Academy members to enjoy their football and work hard so that they keep their place in the Academy, he also augured that the Academy should be a reason to increase the motivation of those young players that could eventually be considered to be part of the Academy.
