Eight players suspended after Balzan-Tarxien clash

nike-ordem-ta-qaliEight players were suspended by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner following the BOV Premier League clash between Tarxien Rainbows and Balzan last Saturday.

Balzan had goalkeeper Christian Cassar suspended for three matches, Lydon Micallef and Alfred Effiong suspended for two matches and Elkin Orlando Serrano Valero for one match. On the other hand, Tarxien’s Ebiabowei Baker and Emerson Marcellina wee banned for three matches, Alexander Nilsson Likourentzos for two matches and Daniel Ponce de Leon Garcia for one game. Elkin Serrano and Daniel Ponce de Leon were suspended after being sent off and after receiving a fourth yellow card respectively while the other six players were reported by the referee following a free-for-all fight after the final whistle.

Christian Cassar is ruled out of Balzan’s next three games against Sliema, Mosta and Pembroke, Micallef and Effiong miss the Sliema and Mosta games while Serrano misses the game against Sliema. Tarxien, on the other hand, will be without Baker and Marcellina against Hibs, Gzira and Birkirkara, Nilsson and Dani Ponce miss the derby against Hibernians with the Swedish striker also missing the Gzira game.

Meanwhile in Division 1, Keith Fedele (Gharghur), Ryan Grech (Naxxar) and Ian Zammit (Sirens) were suspended for one match. Russell Marmara (Mgarr) was banned for one match in Division 2 while in Division 3, Lizio Grech (Xghajra) was handed a two-match ban while Fabio Muscat and Matthew Thorne of Msida were suspended for one match.
