Gzira United extend positive run

Gzira United collected three precious points thanks to a 2-1 win over Mosta at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday. A win which keeps the Maroons hot on the heels of second-placed Hibernians.

On the other hand, Mosta concede a fourth consecutive defeat to lose further ground with the top five.

Gżira took the lead on the 35th minute when Nevin Portelli’s cross from the right was blocked by goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi and Ricardo Correa hit home off the rebound.

The Maroons doubled the score before the end of the first half, courtesy of Bahrudin Atajic who headed the ball home off a Steve Pisani freekick from the right.

Zachary Brincat was unlucky to hit the upright for Mosta on the 63rd when served by Ememe from the left.

However, Mosta pulled one back on the 75th as Michael Mifsud served Divine Naah from the left and the latter slotted the ball past Curmi.

Eight minutes from time, Gżira were reduced to ten men after Gabriel Bohrer Mentz received a second yellow card for a foul.
