Tarxien Rainbows bounced back from the 0-2 defeat to Lija Athletic on Wednesday as they registered a fine 3-1 win over Sirens at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Rainbows, who were coming from three consecutive defeats, move third from bottom, two points ahead of Lija, who however, have a game in hand.
For Sirens, this defeat was a setback in their bid to climb further up the table after collecting maximum points from their last two matches against Sliema and Floriana.
Following a goalless first half, Tarxien took the lead seven minutes in the second half thanks to Leonardo Henrique Ferreira who slotted past goalkeeper Entonjo Elezaj when served on the left by Edison Bilbao Zarate.
Five minutes later, the Rainbows doubled the score thanks to another goal by Leonardo Henrique Ferreira who chipped the ball over the Sirens goalkeeper following a throw in by Camilo Escobar.
Tarxien made it 3-0 on the 62nd minute when they were awarded a penalty after Bilbao Zarate was brought down inside the area by Elezaj and Vito Plut converted from the penalty spot.
The Rainbows were awarded another penalty when Edison Bilbao Zarate was floored inside the area but this time, Ivan Edgardo Paz hit the ball sky high.
Sirens scored a consolation goal two minutes in added time thanks to Lamin Bittaye who headed the ball home following a cross from the right.
