BOV Challenge League: Sliema keep marching on

Sliema Wanderers keep marching on in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Zejtun Corinthians 3-1 in a match from the Top Six at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Lydon Micallef put Sliema ahead on the 12th minute and Murilo Henrique Freire Bernardo doubled the score on the 55th. Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves extended the lead on the 71st but three minutes later, Jesus Andres Yepez Morlets scored a consolation goal for Zejtun.

In the Top Six, Sliema lead the way with 53 points, followed by Naxxar on 42, Zejtun 34, Tarxien 33, Melita 30 and Zurrieq 29.

Meanwhile in the Play-Outs, a goal by Omar Khatib on the 72nd minute handed Mqabba an important win over Qrendi at the Victor Tedesco while a goal by Giorgi Bukhaidze on the 77th was enough for Marsa to beat Lija Athletic at the Centenary Stadium.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Swieqi United defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-0 thanks to goals by Jean Borg on the 54th and Johan Alberto Castano on the 93rd.

In the Play-Out, Swieqi lead the way with 28 points, followed by Marsa on 27, Fgura 26, St. Andrews 25, Lija 23, Mqabba 21, Attard 19, San Gwann 18, Qrendi 17, Marsaskala 15, Mtarfa 14 and Vittoriosa 13.
