Swieqi United defeated St. Andrews 4-3 in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Michael Johnson put St. Andrews ahead on 4 minutes and although Blessing Brafo equalised on the 23rd, Mattia Galliano restored the lead for St. Andrews on 41 minutes. However in added time, Aleksandar Katanic converted a penalty to level matters. Deacon Abela put Swieqi ahead for the first time on 58 minutes. Tobi Akiti restored equilibrium for St. Andrews on 71 minutes but five minutes later, Katanic notched the winner for Swieqi.
At the Centenary Stadium, Santa Lucia beat Senglea Athletic 3-1. Salam Kojo Mawuena put Santa Lucia ahead just before the end of the first half and Emmanuel Asante doubled the score three minutes in the second half. Andrej Nakov reduced the gap on 72 minutes but Matthias Vella made it 3-1 for Santa Lucia.
Tarxien Rainbows defeated Lija Athletic 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Jurgen Debono put the Rainbows ahead on 3 minutes. Rundell Renold Winchester equalised on 66 minutes but an own goal on 75 minutes restored the lead for Tarxien before Hubert Vella sealed the issue with a third goal one minute from time.
In another match, Pieta’ Hotspurs and Zebbug Rangers shared the spoiils in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Hidesato Ueda put Pieta’ ahead on 9 minutes and although Duvan Mosquera equalised on the 15th, a Kian Leonardi penalty made it 2-1 for Pieta’ on 25 minutes. Jamie Carbone levelled matters on 69 minutes.
Valletta lead the way with 35 points, followed by Tarxien on 29, Marsa and Swieqi 28, Pieta’ 26, Santa Lucia 25, Mgarr and Zurrieq 21, Fgura and Gudja 18, Sirens and Zebbug 17, Lija 12, St. Andrews 10, Senglea 8 and Mtarfa 7.
