The Malta Football Association is pleased to announce that in 2016 Malta will have a record of seventeen match officials on the International List.
FIFA has in fact accepted the Malta Football Association’s nomination of 33 year old Clinton Mario Cassar as the second International Futsal Referee alongside the well-established Franco Cachia.
Also new on the FIFA List are 30 year old referees Trustin Farrugia Cann and Fyodor Zammit, while 29 year old Luke Portelli’s name will feature as an international assistant referee for the first time.
In 2016 Malta’s two other FIFA Referees will be the experienced Clayton Pisani and Alan Mario Sant, while Alan Camilleri, William Debattista, Mitchell Scerri, Edward Spiteri, Jurgen Spiteri, Duncan Sultana and Roberto Vella are the other approved FIFA Assistant Referees.
Esther Azzopardi has retained her place as our only female international referee, while Stefan Pace and Jude Amin Utulu have been confirmed as FIFA Beach Soccer Referees.
In a media statement, Director of Refereeing Adrian Casha expressed the Association’s satisfaction by saying that “another milestone has been reached with the second FIFA Badge in Futsal – the result of hard work, vision and perseverance.”
This is the second consecutive year that Malta has managed to increase the number of FIFA Badges for its match officials. In 2014 the total number of international match officials amounted to 13 while in 2015 the number had gone up to 16 FIFA Badges.
Adrian Casha added that “we shall leave no stone unturned to continue increasing the number of international match officials in 2017.”
