Gharghur returned to winning ways as they defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 2-0 in one of the two BOV Second Division matches in programme on Wednesday to re-join Sirens and Marsa on top.
Muda Fagbeja put Gharghur ahead four minutes from the end of the first half when he converted a penalty and doubled the score with another goal just before half-time.
In another match, Qrendi ended a disappointing run of eight matches without a win as they defeated Mellieha 5-0.
Leon Camilleri put Qrendi ahead on the 33rd minute and just before half-time Luca Casha doubled the score. A brace by Dylan Zarb on the 48th and 58th put victory beyond any doubts before John Nwoba added another on the 62nd.
Gharghur, Sirens and Marsa lead the way with 24 points, followed by Zabbar and Zejtun on 19, Siggiewi 16, Birzebbuga 15, Mgarr 14, Qrendi 13, Kirkop and Mellieha 12, Swieqi 9, Msida 4 and Zurrieq 3.
